Am I Losing Too Much Hair?

Am I Losing Too Much Hair?

We speak to a lot of clients that fear they are losing too much hair, or have concerns about the amount of hair they are losing. If you are concerned you are losing too much hair then have a read of this blog post. It may put your mind at rest.

There are many different factors that can come into play and mean that you lose hair. For example new medication could result in some hair loss. If you are stressed at work or home this will have an effect on your hair condition and could result in more hair loss. If you have just or are just getting over a common cold or the flu you may find you lose more hair. Also, if you are changing your diet this could affect your hair loss too.

That said we will naturally lose between 50 and 150 strands of hair every single day. While this may seem like quite a lot, it is quite normal. We have over 100,000 hairs on our head, so losing 50-150 a day won’t make a big impact.

Hair will fall off in your clothes, in the sink, on the bathroom floor and in your brush. If you haven’t washed your hair for a few days then you could see a few hundred hairs in the bath. While a golf ball size of hair in the bath may look concerning, it is completely normal.

We all know that our hair continues growing. While you may lose 50-150 hairs a day, you will be replacing around this amount too. New hair are always growing and replacing the ones that have fallen out.

Hair grows between 2 to 6 years. This growth phase is called the Anagen Phase. Your hair then rests for a few months. This phase is known as the Telogen Phase. This is when the hair falls out but new hair begins to grow. This cycle is repeated over and over again throughout your lifetime.
