Colouring Your Hair At Home

Colouring Your Hair At Home

We know that people often opt for colouring their hair at home. This can be a really good way of saving money but there are a lot of things to consider when colouring your hair at home. You need to make sure you choose the right hair colour, test your hair colour and how to colour your hair in the best way possible.

If you want to colour your hair at home then have a read of this blog post. If you would rather sit back and relax with a magazine and cup of tea then book a hair colouring appointment in Yaxley with us.

Choosing the Right Colour

  • We would always recommend that you don’t choose a colour that is more than 3 shades lighter or darker than your natural hair colour.
  • If you’re going for a big hair colour change, maybe try a temporary colour first. This will give you a chance to see if the colour works for you.
  • Opt for a hair colour that has a solution for multiple highlights and low-lights. This will help create a more natural hair colour for you.
  • Make sure you stand in natural light when choosing the air colour. The lights in the shop can make colours look very different.

Test It

Just as we do in the salon you need to have a hair colour test before colouring your hair at home. This checks the colour on your hair type. However, it also ensures that the hair colour is suitable for your skin type. We would recommend testing the hair colour at least 48 hours before colouring your hair at home, just as we do in the hair salon in Yaxley.

Colouring Your Hair At Home

  • After applying the colour do not wash your hair for at least 48 hours. This gives the colour chance to get into your hair.
  • Top Tip: Use Vaseline around your hairline. This will help avoid any hair dye staining your skin and face.
  • Once the hair colour is on your hair and covering all hair use any leftover colour on the crown of your head and comb it through from root to tip. This will help ensure even application.

If the worst happens and the colour does not come out as you hoped please call our team. We will fix any hair colour mistakes in Peterborough for you.
