Here at Locks and Shades we always find it strange that it is presumed that ladies automatically know what hair type they have. You think you have ‘normal’ hair. Then you go to purchase shampoo and you are presented with various hair care products for different hair types you didn’t even know existed. This leaves you wondering if you really do have normal hair after all.
In this blog post we look at dry hair and oily hair. These hair type descriptions are based on the moisture levels of your hair. Neither hair type is anything to worry about. However, by understanding your hair type you can make sure you care for it in the right way and use the right hair care products.
Generally speaking, water makes up for around 25% of our hair. Just like our bodies need to stay hydrated, it is exactly the same for your hair too. However, your hair will fall into one of three categories. These are dry hair, oily hair, or combination hair. Combination hair means a mix of oily and dry hair.
If you have oily hair then it is likely you will feel the need to wash it 4 to 5 times a week, if not every day. This hair type works best when treated and looked after with clarifying shampoos. This is because the clarifying shampoos avoid high levels of product build up, and instead allow products to go deep into your scalp.
If you have oily type hair we would recommend that you go easy on the conditioner. To much conditioner on oily hair strands can result in greasy feeling and greasy looking hair which is definitely something you want to avoid.
If you have dry type hair you will be able to go for days without washing your hair. Good hair products for your hair type include moisture-retaining hair products. This is because they lock in water and this helps keep your hair feeling soft and supple.
Dry hair is often caused by dehydration. If you have dry hair make sure you top up your own water levels, as well as using lock in moisture hair products. By drinking plenty of water every day you will see a noticeable improvement in the softness of your hair, and you’ll notice a real shine too.
Why not have a chat with your hairdresser in Yaxley at your next hair appointment about your hair type. They will be happy to share top tips with you and recommend some good hair products for you too.
