Does Hair Conditioner Work?

Does Hair Conditioner Work?

Here at Locks and Shades our friendly hairstylists will recommend the best hair shampoo and conditioner for your hair. However, we will often be asked if hair conditioner works. This is a very common question, so we thought we would tackle ‘Does Hair Conditioner Work’ in this blog post.

Hair conditioner contains good oils that will help balance the pH level of your scalp and hair. The pH level of your hair will determine how dry or greasy your hair will be. A good pH level will result in hair that isn’t dry or greasy.

Your hair is dead as soon as it leaves the root. It is made up of dead skin cells that are wrapped around a cuticle layer. While you cannot literally bring your dead hair back to life, you can help it. For example, conditioners include an ingredient called Cationic Surfactant. By applying conditioner to your hair you are holding the dead skin cells and cuticle layers tighter. This will help you avoid the frizzy look, instead making your hair feel and look silky and smooth.

Many people find that their hair feels less tangled after using conditioner. This is because the oils in the conditioners help de-tangle your hair because clean hair, straight after being shampooed, can become extremely knotted. The oils in the conditioner work as a lubricant for your hair. They smooth out the coated hair and enable you to easily brush your hair without damaging it or pulling it out.

We would recommend that you use conditioner every time you wash your hair. However it can be used on its own too. If you wash your hair 3 times a week and your hair is greasy and fine we would recommend that you use hair conditioner on the ends around twice a week and just comb the hair conditioner through.

Now we hope you can see that hair conditioner works and how it works?
